Didi Patchwork & Kantha Bedspread

"Didi, didi!" (big sister) were the words that followed me everyday while spending time with the amazing artisans making these beautiful throws.

This is our take on traditional kantha quilts. We source beautifully coloured deadstock fabrics in the local market. Each panel is then hand-cut, sewn together, and intricately hand-finished with traditional kantha stitching to hold all the layers together. Perfect for draping at the end of a bed or on a sofa.

  • Hand filled with four 100% cotton voile layers
  • Multi colour patchwork on one side and single colour on reverse
  • Kantha pattern shows on both sides, creating a modern geometric pattern

About

Kantha quilts, typical of Bangladesh and West Bengal, carry with them a centuries-old tradition of recycling and creativity. Women in rural areas recycled old saris and other textiles, layering four to seven pieces together and keeping them together with intricate rows of stitching, a skill they learned from their mothers and grandmothers.

The artisans making our quilts are part of a co-operative that was created to educate, train and empower marginalised women including sex workers in skills such as in tailoring, block-printing, kantha stitching and natural dyeing, as well as to teach them other skills such as organic farming and self-defence. Over the last ten years over 4500 women have benefited from this incredible initiative which follows Fair Trade principles and which we feel privileged to be a part of.

Returns & Refunds

Items can be refunded within 14 days of your order being received.

We cannot accept returns unless we have been contacted beforehand and the return has been agreed. Please email orders@ainoah.co.uk

Provided items are returned unused and in perfect condition we will refund the full amount for the style minus the initial shipping costs, unless your order is damaged/faulty.

We recommend using a recorder or trackable postal service as any returns are at your own risk.
